Shot blasting is one of the older methods used to prepare concrete floors for resurfacing. The process of shot blasting consists of blasting the concrete surface with small steel balls (shot) at high velocity to remove coatings, contaminants, and soft areas of the concrete.
Dust created by this process is eliminated via a powerful vacuum system integrated in the shot blast machine itself, making shot blasting a more eco-friendly alternative to harsh chemical compounds sometimes used to help dissolve coatings.
Shot blasting can be done both indoors and outdoors, with machinery sized for the job at hand – large ride-ons for larger areas and smaller walk-behind units for tight spaces. We have the latest and best equipment needed for any job, and experienced machine operators who are dedicated to doing the very finest job possible.
Shot blasting works well with thinner coatings; thick coatings may require several steps to completely remove by using this method. A generally rougher surface is left behind after shot blasting, making it necessary to use a self-leveling compound or grinder to smooth the flooring.
Before any shot blasting begins, one of our experts here at Concrete Floor Specialists will carefully inspect and examine your floor to determine if this is the best method to use to achieve the final finish desired.
