Concrete Preparation

Concrete Preparation

The most important step in the process of refinishing, resurfacing, or overlaying your concrete floors is concrete preparation. Improperly prepared concrete assures the finished project will fail. It takes knowledge, experience, and the proper equipment to prepare concrete correctly, all of which our highly-trained contractors have here at Concrete Floor Specialists.

The Process

Before any work begins, our experts will examine the existing concrete and test it for density. The general condition of the concrete will determine the best method for cleaning and preparing for an overlay or polishing. As part of the prepping process, any necessary repairs will be done (filling cracks, leveling low spots, etc.) before the needed equipment is brought in. There are several preparation methods that can be used to remove stains, old flaking sealants, paint, or other coatings, but for most floors heavy-duty diamond tooled grinders are sufficient. The concrete must be perfectly clean and bare to enable the resurfacing or overlay to properly bond.

Determining Factors for the Right Final Finish

Another strong point for choosing the expertise of our contractors is that they will know exactly how rough or smooth the concrete needs to be to achieve the correct final finish. For example, the thicker the overlay to be used, the rougher the prepared surface should be. We at Concrete Floor Specialists specialize in commercial concrete work and know exactly what is needed to give your business a beautiful cost-effective floor that will last for many years.
